This four (4) year programme focuses on the theory and practice aspect of relations between employers, employees, unions and government; as well as the management of people within an organization, including recruitment, selection, remuneration, appraisal,training and development.This is a professional major which includes a work experience programme with placements in unions, employer organizations, companies and government parastatals.

DEMOGRAPHY AND SOCIAL STATISTICS

Demography is the scientific study of human populations primarily with respect to their sizes, density, composition and changes or trends that occur in them. It also studies and the social, economic, political and other consequences or implications of such changes. It is a discipline that cuts across many aspects of human development, finding relevance and applications in several social science disciplines as well as in public health and medical sciences. Demographers use statistics as a major tool in their work. In view of its broad areas of relevance in human development, graduates can work in Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations including International Agencies such as WHO, UNICEF, UNFPA, USAID, DFID and the World Bank. They can also work in products and services industries, local banks, insurance companies manufacturing and other related companies as well as in research and academic establishments.

ECONOMICS

This programme examines concepts in anthropology, liberal arts, and social theory, while building your sociological research, qualitative and quantitative skills. As a result, you will improve your ability to analyse and understand the impact social institutions have on human behaviours and perceptions.

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

PSYCHOLOGY

COLLEGE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (CST)

ARCHITECTURE

This Programme provides deep and broad instruction in the discipline of architecture. The course of study emphasizes the interconnected relationship between architectural design, building technology, computation, history, theory, criticism and art. It will inspire and exercise students in wide range of experiences. Also, students will develop an independent, creative, diverse and rigorous approach to design from the onset, and will be guided in finding their own direction in architecture. This programme has further been boosted by the wealth of immerse knowledge provided by its faculties which includes a Distinguished Professor of Architecture.
Duration: 4 years, Degree: B.Sc. Requirements: Candidates must in addition possess credit level passes in Physics and any other two (2) of Fine/Visual Arts, Technical Drawing, Chemistry, Painting and Decoration, Further Mathematics, Biology, Geography, Economics, Building Construction, Wood Work, Agriculture Science or Land Survey.

BUILDING TECHNOLOGY

A student who wants to understand how to develop abilities in planning, implementing and supervising construction projects must also want to become knowledgeable about building administration, building development and building construction. Such a student will gain a sound understanding of the new age building industry, construction methods and building materials.
Duration: 5years Degree: B.Sc. Requirements: Candidates must in addition possess credit level passes in Physics with any other two (2) subjects from Technical, Agriculture, Technology, Science, Mathematics. In any case a Pass in Chemistry is Compulsory.

ESTATE MANAGEMENT

This programme provides students with a rigorous understanding of the principles and practices involved in commercial property management, valuation, as well as planning and development surveying up to Bachelor’s degree standard. The programme is primarily designed for people engaged in the property profession, either in a private firm or government organization. Graduates from this programme may proceed to careers in management within the estate and property industry, surveying or valuation practices, estate agencies, local and national government, retailers, financial institutions or general management.

BIOCHEMISTRY

INDUSTRIAL CHEMISTRY
Industrial Chemistry is the branch of chemistry which applies to physical and chemical processes towards the transmutation of raw materials into products that are of benefit to mankind. The goal of this degree programme is to produce graduates who will be highly skilled in this area. We do this by first giving the students a solid foundation in chemistry, mathematics and physics.
The Industrial Chemistry graduate is a chemist with knowledge linkages in engineering, chemical processing, economics and industrial management. This programme has been designed to provide the students an insight into chemistry as used/ employed in industry. Industrial Chemistry as a subject is a very important tool in an application of chemical knowledge to a range of industrial enterprises. The pharmaceutical, petrochemical, soap and detergents, paints, dyes, textiles, insecticides, food and biochemical industries are just some of the endeavours where industrial chemistry is applied. This offers enormous scope to the students.

INDUSTRIAL CHEMISTRY-ANALYTICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL

This option of study has two main disciplines: Environmental Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry, investigates of the effects of chemical compounds in nature as it relates to air, water, soil, food chains and organisms. This study is basically on how chemicals interact with the natural environment. Analytical Chemistry is the development of analytical methods to solve problems in environmental chemistry, like environmental monitoring and studies of the quality of water and contents of effluents.
The options provide specialist knowledge of the instrumentation and method development for the identification and quantification of natural and anthropogenic compounds at trace level. This also build on undergraduate chemistry experience of more traditional fundamentals in analytical thinking which is needed to take leadership in industry as well as academia.

Job prospects for experience in Analytical/Environmental Chemist include: Toxicology Consultant, Biogeochemist of Organic Contaminants, Organics Section Manager, Analytical Chemist, Environmental Chemist, Rand D Chemist, Safety Specialist and Project Chemist to mention few.
It is good to point out here that graduates from any of the Chemistry programmes being offered in Covenant University are eligible for admission to the Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN) and the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (ICCON).  In addition, such graduates are eligible to be considered for membership of the Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria (IPAN) for professional development programme leading to membership of IPAN (MIPAN) after two to three years of graduate experience.

Candidates seeking admission to any of the Engineering programmes must have obtained at least five (5) credit passes in the SSCE/GCE O‘Level/NECO/NABTEB or its equivalent, obtained at not more than two (2) sittings prior to the resumption date. The five (5) credit passes must include Mathematics, English Language, Physics and Chemistry. CHEMICAL ENGINEERING

Students will study and examine the fundamentals of industrial chemical processes that transform raw materials into useful products. They will learn how to apply this knowledge to create and optimize chemical processes and products that are efficient, high-quality, environmentally safe, and can improve the society.
Duration: 5 years,  Degree: B.Eng. Requirements: Candidates must in addition possess credit level passes in any one (1) subject from Technical Drawing, Biology or Further Mathematic.

CIVIL ENGINEERING

In this programme, students will learn how to plan, design and manage all types of civil engineering systems and processes. They will be equipped on how to use engineering skills to develop sound infrastructure, create solutions for water and energy management, protect society from natural disasters and handle hazards such as toxic wastes, etc.
Duration: 5 cyears Degree: B.Eng. Requirements: Candidates must in addition possess credit level pass in any other subject from Science, Technical, Technology, Mathematics or Agriculture.
 
COMPUTER ENGINEERING

Computer Engineers design and test new computer technologies and develop innovations for novel equipment and systems, from medical equipment to hand held devices, video games, power grids and communication systems. They are also responsible for the design, development and testing of computer networks, computer hardware including components such as circuit boards, computer chips, keyboards, routers etc. Computer Engineers are also trained to be Software Engineers and as Software Engineers they are responsible for the development and testing of software that the computers run on. They may also be involved in the development of specialized software applications for Games, Business, and Education among others.  To prepare for a career in this field, you will build skills in both Computer Engineering, Computer programing, basic Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Computer Science.

Electrical and Electronics Engineering
Electrical Engineers design, develop, test, and supervise the manufacturing of electrical equipment such as Electric Motors, Electric Power generation systems, Renewable Energy Systems etc. The develop new ways to use Electric power to develop or improve products by working on areas such as Renewable Energy, Smart-grids, Automation and also undertake research in developing ways of improving the performance of power supply networks. They work with project managers to undertake electrical installation designs. Electrical Services Design, Electrical lighting and factory automation systems.

Electronics engineers on the other hand are involved in the design and development of electronic equipment and systems, such as broadcast and communications systems among others. They develop systems for commercial, industrial, medical or scientific applications. They also serve as inspectors of Electronic Equipment and instruments to ensure that the equipment meet safety standards. Electronics Engineers undertake research, develop, and evaluate electronic devices used in a variety of areas, such as aviation, computing, transportation, and manufacturing. To undertake the Electrical and Electronics Engineering course, students will take courses in Electrical Engineering, Reliability, Electronics Engineering, Electronic Circuit design, Electric Power systems among others.

Information and Communication Engineering
Information and Communications Engineers provide technical expertise, services and solutions revolving around various modes of communication and information transfer. An Information and Communications Engineer is responsible for the research, design, development and production of communications networks, equipment and systems.  The field of operation of the Information and Communication Engineer spans across several communications technologies ranging from satellites, radio, internet and broadband technologies and wireless telephone services. Information and Communication Engineers are usually employed by telecommunication companies, telecom service providers, communication software development companies and their key roles include design and setting up of communication networks, maintaining such networks and managing the networks to cater for the evolution of the various communication technologies. To undertake this course, students will take courses in basic Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Communication Networks, Data Communication, satellite communication among other courses.

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

Mechanical engineering is concerned with the management of people and resources, the creation and use of new technologies and the design and development of new processes and products. This mostly involves ‘things that move’, such as motor vehicles, aircraft systems, engines, pumps, gas turbines, industrial plants, air-conditioning/refrigeration systems, manufacturing procedures, building inspection and repairs and even space stations. Due to its broadly based discipline, you are trained for careers in many industrial sectors, including such various areas as Energy, Chemical Processing, Research, Manufacturing, Design Consultancy, Materials Processing and Aviation.
The following happens at CU:
  • You will acquire experience in technical analysis, operation and maintenance of equipment and systems.
  • You will discover how to turn energy into power and motion and learn to design, create, improve and maintain systems and machinery.
  • You will also study design, fluid mechanics and dynamics, solids modelling, materials and manufacturing, instrumentation and control as well as thermodynamics and stress analysis.
  • In the end, your experience in this programme will aid you in solving real world problems in technical analysis, operation and maintenance of equipment and systems.
Duration: 5 years Degree: B.Eng. Requirements: Candidates must in addition possess credit level pass in any one (1) of Biology, Further Mathematics, Technical Drawing. Credit Pass in Further Mathematics will be an added advantage.
